Ok so i made the switch over to MH from t5. I am using a piece of eggcrate with 5 layers of soft, mesh screen. I was going to remove a layer every four days or so. My question is how many layers should i use at first? I have five on my tank now and it looks extremely dim inside. I am worried that my sps will suffer from a lack of light for the first week or so? Does anyone have any advice for me on how you made the switch from t5s to mh. I know there is an option of raising and lowering the light, but i dont have that option as the light is a clamp on. and is already in the upmost position.

You will probably only need to adjust the light schedule back a couple of hours then bump it back up an hour a week until you get back on the same schedule. T5HO and MH are actually fairly close in strength. What wattage and how many T5HO bulbs to what wattage and how many MH bulbs?

    my old t5 fixture was 39watt x 4bulb = 156watt
my mh is one, 150watt JBJ K-2 Viper
So i dont need to diffuse the light at all?

I made an extreme jump from 8-48" T-5's to 3 400w MH. All I did was back the time on to 4hrs for 3 days then added 1 hr every 3 days until I got to where I wanted. No problems at all. I now only run the MH 6hrs a day and the actinics 12.
