So last night my husband decided to borrow the refugium light to install a new speaker system in his truck. Well, we just bought the refugium light and a clip for it a couple weeks ago at home depot. It was a real nice Philips LED par30 bulb and was priced around $35. So he decides to put it back, and 2 minutes later he smells fire. I went out and smelled fire, and then he tells me the light fell in the tank after he put it back. Do you think this could mess up my tank? We are in the process of cycling the tank, so there isn't anything in it except rock, sand, and water. Will this mess up the cycle (by falling in the tank)? I know it's not really necessary to have a refugium light until we get some chaeto or something...

I think the main issue is having to drop another $35 on a new light....so much for the light lasting 20+ years.

I don't know what to do with him sometimes...

Yeah, we had it on a GFCI so I guess that was helpful.

Maybe a little passive aggressive that your tank set up is costing more than his speaker system??;D

You should be fine. WC's should take care of any unlikely contamination in that short period of time.

had something similar happen to our tank, except the fire went up the wall a bit and dropped ash/char into the tank. Run carbon just to be safe! Good thing for the GFCI, you are almost becoming a real reefer! Already had a fire, now you just need to flood the place and then you can be welcomed open arms into our club!

LOL........i have had 3 fires (2 were just power strips, 1 was that one up the wall a bit) and too many floods to count!

While we are on fire..........seriously, GFCI is crucial, but a good powerstrip is a necessity. As said, I had 2 fires in powerstrips and was lucky enough to be home to throw it.......but a good metal one is a must. I dont understand enough and maybe an electrician or somebody else can explain but the el cheapo strips tend to catch fire in our hobby. We have smoke alarms over each of our tanks just to be sure also
