So i have a glass lid on my tank. If I did not have that then the reflective surface in the ballast would get corroded with salt splatter on it. Do any of you have this problem? If so, what do you do about it?

I also have a glass cover for the very same reason, but others hang their fixture high enough to prevent spray/splatter from reaching the light.

My fixture has an acrylic lens that protects the bulbs and reflectors. Using a glass top can heat up a tank and here in Florida thats bad. My fixture is only four inches from the surface but I only have to wipe the lens once in a while.;)

I have heard similar things about the cover. I guess its a trade off with the cover preventing evaporation and preventing build up on the fixture

I decided to not use the cover, but to use the clamps to hold the light higher. I am having to top it off about 5x a week. But it does look better, imo.
