I am working on my first sw tank build. I have a 75 gallon tank with a 40 gallon sump, I want to have corals eventually. Would some of you suggest some light fixtures I should look at? I would like to stay in the sub $500 range if at all possible. Thank you.

You could go T5HO and I would get a 6X54W fixture. Get one with contoured or individual reflectors.

Im never sure on tank sizes when listed by gallons

if its a 4ft long tank then 54 watt T5s in a 48 inch canopy would be ideal IMO
if its a 5ft tank then 80 watt lamps in a 60 inch canopy would be better

4 lamps and your good for most things even SPS provided you use quality lamps and place the light loving corals accordingly

6 lamps or more , and you are even better off and have more options on your light loving coral placements
