Tagging along...I also have egg crate on top of my DT to keep my Purp. Firefish from jumping. I've been wondering if it effects the light going into the DT also.

Shouldn't be too much light lost... though I've heard people complain about shadows. Try the screen mesh with window frame. Let me see if I can pull out the thread..

Clear mesh screens FTW. I lost about 20-30% of light before with eggcrate. It's definitely noticeable and definitely makes a difference.

Very interesting link Hermano. The only factor that is keeping me off that net project is that with the egg crate I cut around my overflow box, etc, so it's a pretty snug fit and I can have the J-tubes or return pipe (my tank is not pre-drilled) through the egg crate. I don't see that possibility with this setup, though.
Or is there a way to do that? If so i could definitely jump on this... I need something to keep me busy.

Build the frame and cut out the frame that would be in the area you are worried about. There is enough support from the rest of the frame to keep the tension in the frameless area.

Good idea. Maybe with a couple more extra 90's I could just completely go around. If this is like mosquito screen, you need a little rubber seal that keeps it all together. I'll look into it. I don't like the egg crate look but i have gotten used to it. Removing this would be great.... and there's a plus.... FRAG RACKS!!!! :D
