I have a 40 gallon fowlr, that I want to add some beginner corals to (soft and lps) I found a light and was wanting to know if it is a waste of money. I thought CF was useless for corals am I mistaken?

    here are the light stats-

I guess if I were you, I would look into possibly a t-5 fixture, there are far more options for colors on the bulb. ooo and they put out far more PAR

That will be more than adequate for softies and LPS. You will be able to keep SPS on the tops of the rocks also.

I would suggest going to T5HO instead because it will allow you more options.

A lot of people like CFs because they seem to make coralline grow faster, but the bulbs don't have options for color and need to be changed twice as often as t5s. They also can't make a decent reflector to wrap around that crazy double bulb. Most reefers have given up on CFs, but that does not mean they are useless.

I would look into T5s as well if I were you.
