Light Schedule Questions

Hi....I light my 135 gallon tank with 4 55w PC's and 2 250w MH's.

I have my PC's come on at 8:00 am and go off at 8pm.
My MH's come on at 10:45am and go off at 5:00pm.

Is that a good lighting schedule?
If not what/where should I adjust...what should be longer or shorter?

looks good. if you want you can up the mh up 30minutes more. and see if your growth improves.. if algae starts in more than go backwards in time.

I usally dont have my light come on til around noon thru midnite. I like to watch late night reef action.

 

sounds good to me, question, when are you usually home to enjoy the tank? you can always move that schedule forward or back so you can actually enjoy it during the time your typically home.

 

Good idea...I am usually home all the time since I own my own IT consulting co and work out of my house. So my daughter and I get to enjoy it.

But when my wife gets home the MH's go off at 5:00...

I think I will move it up an hour and then extend it a half hour also so the MH's will come on at 11:45 am and go off at 6:30 pm.

I'll start with that and see how things go.

Do people run the MH's longer usually?

 

I only have MH atm and it runs 11am to 8:30pm

 

What is the average runtime for most people running there Metal Halides?
7 hrs
8 hrs
9 hrs
10 hrs

8 for me 13.00 till 21.00 300watt 20k.

 

wow....I need to bump mine up....I was only going 6.

 

watch you electric bill next month after your MH bump.. extra 2 hours a day 2hrs x 30days x 500watts = $10-20bucks extra a month?

 

uh oh....I just started running my MH's just the last few days too....
I cant wait to see the bill next month...I may be stepping down the lighting!
