    Hey Everyone,

One of my lights keeps turning itself off. Meaning the fixture itself is shutting down both lights. It's a current Actinic set up with 2x54 watt bulbs. If it shuts down and I turn the light switch off and then back on it turns on for a period of time and then will shut down again. Do you think it's overheating? If so do you think swapping out the bulbs would help or is the fixture shot.. The thing is only a year old!

    What do you think?

Overheating or a ballast issue. If it has a fan make sure it is operating properly. Clean all the accumulated dust from vents and inside of fixture where the ballast is. Check for complete and solid wiring connections.

smack it and tell it to stop turning off!!!

I would think it is a problem with the ballast personally.

Thanks- I'll check out the fan passage first. If that doesn't fix it I guess it's time for a new light.

I would say ballast as well...Being an electrician for some time I also know when ballast go bad the bulbs or fixture themselves will become quite a bit hotter than they normally would. It can also be just overheating in general too if your fans are clogged, but it is the same principle. When your fixture gets hot the ballast will kick on and off...Its kinda a fail safe if you will so you dont torch the fixture as a whole or worse your house. Im not sure about replacing ballasts on your light as I have never done one on tha fixture, but I am pretty sure it wouldnt be that difficult if you find that to be the problem.

I agree sounds like it's your ballast.
