I'm a marine newbie setting up a 120 gal reef tank.
The tank is 60" so if i buy a 60" fixture the center halide light falls directly over the center brace. I'm consider buying two 30" fixtures to solve the problem but the combination of the two smaller fixtures will give me two halide lights while the 60" fixture has three halide lights.
    Suggestions please.

Glass or acrylic? Normally the brace shouldn't interfere too much.

    Welcome to the hobby!

With that said the two smaller ones would be easier when doing your maintenance.

    120 gal. glass
I have a canopy so the lights will be 'leg mounted'. (not to be confused with my Jack Russel terrier)

As long as we don't see you mounting things it should be ok! :0

The brace should be glass so as long as you keep it clean it shouldn't hamper your lights too much. Personally I'd go witht he 3 bulb option and figrure out a way to mount the lights so they can be raised or slid out of the way.

Why not do 2 large metal halide reflectors such as lumen bright reflectors. The large ones would be all you need to light that.

The center brace on my tank is opaque so it would block a great deal of the middle light and cause unecessary heat. (I think)

I'm considering two 30" fixtures each containing:
    1 - 250 W halide
    2 - 65 W compact flourescents
    4 - blue moon LED

Is this a good lighting package for a 120 gal reef tank??

I think Geekdafied is referring to a DIY kit. Do you have a canopy on the tank where lights could be mounted? If so, you could fit two reflectors with perhaps 250W halides and mount the power compacts or T5s off the front and back of the canopy.
