I have attached a few pic of my tank so you can see what I am trying to accomplish. I presently have 3 24" PC in the hood but I would like to get T5's. The space from the top of the tank to the hood is only 4-1/2". I am looking at the ATI fixture but don't think it would cool properly since there wouldn't be much space between the top of the hood and the light fixture. Plus I don;t know if the ATI is even capable of being mounted under the hood. My other option is to install a retro-fit unit which I could put fans at the end of the unit to blow out the back of the hood. I could also mount the ballast away from the hood to eliminate even more heat. If you were in my shoes what would you do?

Welcome to 3reef, If you don't want to use LED then a T5HO retrofit is the way to go.

retro fit for sure, you could even get some shorter t5s for the edges of your tank.
