My lights should be in today. Current USA 4x54.

I've been running 36 watts of crappy lighting for the past 5 weeks.

I read on 3reef ramping up on the new lights slowly for algae reasons (perhaps others as well). I'm looking for more info here.

As far as life in the tank, please see sig. It's not much. Yet.

I currently run the crappy lights 12noon - 8pm. I'm thinking in the end, I want to run the 4x54 in the same period and then run the moons 8 - 10pm.

But it sounds like I don't want to suddenly start with that timer cycle (particularly with the 10ks).

I'm looking for recommendations on easing the tank into the new light setup. (Not really asking about moon settings, just day time settings)

My current guess is actinics for same period and then + 1 hour on the 10k each day (starting at 0 and after a week of actinics only) until they hit the desired interval. Is that a fine plan?

PS: I don't plan to swap out any of the bulbs (yet).

With how new your tank is and not having anything sensitive in there, I would honestly just go for it. Your gonna be getting algae soon anyways :-/ Just my HO

i just switched my lights over yesterday from crappy lights and so far so good no large algae blooms or anything crazy, like said above, if you dont have any fish or delicate corals living in there,(hitchhikers are not delicate as they survive being shiped cured and put in your own tank tehre pretty tough) you can just go for it imo...
