Lighting for a 40g breeder?

    I wanna create a sps and clam only tank.The tank is 36X18X16,im thinking a 250w MH 10,000k and 2X96w actnics. i wanna build a nice canopy involving some kind of MH and PC retro.Any ideas and info. on MH retrofits,reflectors or combos?How high will the MH have to be?Tank will be located in my basement,were most of my tanks are,it is fairly cool all the time.

    I'm with you on the 250w. Way back when I had a 175w on a 40 breeder. More bulb choices with the 250 now.

    Have you looked at T5 actinics? They crank and could be less watts too.

    I just ordered a custom halide and T5 combo hood from www.catalinaaquarium.com. They have a lot of retrofits there too. CHeck it out.

    8-12 inches above the water is the standard with blubs that big.
