Lighting For My 20 gallon reef tank.

Hello All,

I finally got my filter. I got a Fluval 305 like a few on this site suggested. Now the next thing I want to purchase is the lighting. What do you all suggest? I want to put some live rock, some corals, and live sand. The rest will be a couple of fish, hermit crabs, and what ever else will live safe and happy in this small of tank. All suggestions are great appreciated.

Im a big fan of T5 lighting as you get a lot of lamp colour choices and you dont get the temp issues you can get with MH

A 4 Lamp fixture mimimum would be good for many soft corals, shrooms, zoanthids etc , even LPS IME
a 6 lamp fixture would be even better and open the door to some of the easier to start with SPS corals IME

well i have a 14 gallon reef and i just bought a t5 pc 80 watt (20") sundial lighting fixture for 100 dollars on drsfosterandsmith.com ... i would try giving that type of light a look, i believe they have 5 dollar shipping on all products right now. good luck.

t5s will be fine but if u are gonna get a 6 lamp fixture might as well get the sunpod or a pendant

 

get a small HQI light.. you will be happy with it..
