Got two ideas either I run the current 8x54watt t-5 or run the 2 icecap 250 MH and maybe like 4 of the 54watt t5... I see a lot of people running only two t5 with the MH is 4 over kill its just this 140 is so tall... also never had MH before is a 12inch canopy ok for heat and about four fans running. also what do you all use for a splash protection for there lights

MH will for sure give you more depth and overall light saturation than t5-ho. i personally like t5-ho because its got less draw on my electrical bill :)

For anything over 24" deep, I recommend halides. I do love my t-5s for coloration though.

I am running a little overkill but.....

Pair of 250s on the ends
Pair of 175s in the middle
    4 36" t-5s
    2 72" t-12 actinics

In a 12 inch canopy with 2 fans. One fan pushes the air in from the end and the other draws it out.

I have a tempered glass shield that is removable. Keeps the heat away from the tank to be drawn out by the fans.
