I would generally agree with you, however, a 70W MH, is probably an exception. I have one on my 29g display and it really does not put out any heat. I actually think it puts out less than the 4xT-5s I had on it previously.

I also have two PAR30s on the tank as supplemental lighting. Either or would be great on a 10g.

either way i will probably spend the same i found this website called hellolights and they have a retrofit 70 watt pendant with ballast for 100 bucks with no bulb so i have spend like 40 extra for a bulb and par 30's cost about 70 each and i need two so

As some have said, why not an LED setup? i have a PAR38 over my biocube 14, and it looks great, it shimmers and everything.

For real! LED is the way to go. I bought some new coral this weekend and they looked awesome in the LFS. When I got them home I was hoping they would look as good as they did under the store's MH's. They did, IN FACT, they looked about 10x better!!

[ I have no idea how growth compares to MH, as I have never had MH, but I can definitely say LEDs promote great growth, my monti had half an inch of growth in 3 weeks, my palys put out a head every 3 weeks, and my zoa frags covered the whole plug with in a week or so.
