    Hello everyone:

I picked up this light on eBaY and was wondering if it will make a good light for farming Zoonathids? I think I am starting to like these colorful little corals.
It has 4 46.5 inch 110 watt VHO bulbs.

And would you use 2 Actinics and 2 daylights or use the half&half bulbs? It does have 2 separate power switches.

Did I get ripped on the price? It came without bulbs. The guy works for a fixture manufacturer but I dont think they do aquatic lighting. I payed about $190 shipped.

Seems like a good deal to me. I don't see a ballast anywhere though.. do VHOs have ballasts?

Should be nice for zoos for sure!

Great....good news. The ballasts are in the fixture and there are fans on the top of the light. Im pretty excited to get it. This guy is making me custome acrylic mounting leggs and had me email him a bunch of measurements of my hood and pics of the inside so it would be a good fit. Seems like a real nice guy. Its his second light he has sold.

    Matt,

I think it IS the ballast that makes it a VHO. Please correct me someone if I am wrong :)

That's correct John, a NO output ballast will not drive a vho bulb however a VHO ballast will drive a NO bulb and some say NO bulbs perform just as good as VHO bulbs for less the price when using a VHO ballast.

    48" NO bulb = 40 watts
    48" VHO bulb = 110 watts
