I’m building my first reef. It’s a 75g DT (59”x18”x18”) w/ 31g Sump. Both tanks are glass and the top has two glass plates stretching the short axis of the tank. I’m planning to start with Mushrooms and Leathers so I don’t have to break the bank immediately on lighting. So far I’m starting off with 4x T5HO 54 Watt tubes configured 50/50 actinic / white. This, if my research is correct, should support the corals I’m looking to keep.

My question is will the two glass sheets used to hold the sides of the tank together be a significant obstruction to my lighting, so much so that my corals will suffer?

Not the corals you are starting with. I would avoid putting high light SPS underneath the the glass panels though.

+1 to ^ your softies and leathers and lower light corals will be fine under the panels.
