    Hi there,

Currently my lighting setup will be 24w t5 HO x2 in my 2.5 feet tank. my tank height will be 22 inch tall. I'm thinking of adding MH. Do you guys think is this necessary or just add additional t5HO?

    welcome to 3 reef guleng

what do you want to keep in your tank?

if you know what you want to keep, then advising you on the need or otherwise for an upgrade will be easier

How long have you had these guleng? the button polyps are probably fine under the 2 x t5s you have IME

but the nems may be a problem long term (not just with regard lighting IME they like mature water and tend to go on walkabout if they are not happy)

I would definitely consider adding a 2nd pair of T5 tubes at minimum
hopefully someone with more nem experience than I have will give a more definitive answer

Assuming your anemones are at the bottom of the 22 inch tank, a MH pendant would likely help them thrive (although it would introduce temperature issues to your tank that would have to be dealt with, likely with chillers). The alternative is to add more T5 bulbs and to make sure that they have quality SLR reflectors. You see, one T5 fixture is not necessarily as effective as another. I would go with a minimum of a Tek fixture (although the new Tek elites are better, and ATI better still). Without these good reflectors, the light will not effectively reach the bottom of your tank.

    Hope that helps.

my anemones always stick on the live rock which is bottom of my tank. add new t5 ho is the same price with adding MH. assuming t5 h0 with two bulb with ballast is 250 buck without reflector and MH is around 288 buck with all included. I'm using 2nd chiller resun cl 650

    where are you shopping guleng?

sounds like a good price for a MH - what type is it and what lamp?
I had a Resun CL650 chiller, and thought it was OK and good value

    Hey guy,
After confirm with the LFS , the MH bulb they are giving is the Reef octopus brand. Is it good enough ?
