Lighting timers

Has anyone ever tried and/or been successful with using X10 appliance modules for their light timers? I have been having issues with the coralife timer I am using and am looking for an alternative. I am running two 150 watt halides with moonlight and actinics.

 

I am not familiar with the X10's, but I have been using a heavy duty outdoor timer for sprinkler systems for my lights and it has worked great. $40 from Home Depot

 

Just try to ensure that you're getting timers with a ground plug. If they don't have a ground then I wouldn't use them.

 

I just use a couple of appliance timers I bought at Target. They were about $3 each. I too tried the Coralife double timer power strip. It stopped working reliably after a few months. You are not the only one to have problems with it.

 

The x10 modules are not really reliable. I used to use them for a lot of stuff, running the control softwater on my PC. I would make sure that I would send the on/off commands 3 or 4 times to make sure the command makes it through.

What I have switched over to, just because I don't have any problems with them. Only down side is they do not have a batter backup, so you have to reset the time after power outages. Is these inexpensive intermatic timers.
