So i have the red sea max 130 (34 gallons) and i want to get more light on my corals. I've been told to use the ecoxotic lighting strips because they're thin enough to fit in my tank. does anyone else have any suggestions? I'm also told i should get 420 & 460 lighting because it will bring the colors out more. I can't really find anything online so here I am.
    thanks

420 and 460 are actinics which wont increase the lighting for the corals but will mostly just bring out more colors, and so will the lighting strips..they are made for color not for growth

420 and 460 actinics are needed for growth but you still need 10k's for the best growth, you cant have reef without 10k's,12ks' etc....

Are you wanting better lighting to bring out more color? or more growth and brighter such as MH, LED..T5

also space is an issue for me. i really only have 2 inches of space between the top and the water level. also if i was gonna get the ecoxatic led strips, would i want to get the uv or the blue to bring the color out?

IMO if you want to sps you should go with one of the newer T5/MH lighting systems. They have the lunar lights as well. But with that said since this is a RedSea Max I have no idea what size fixture you can use. Anything 150w to 250 should do the trick mH wise for the sps.

There are some good threads on T5 lighing on this forum as well, and LED. I have just lost touch since using only MH for acros.

If you are looking to get your color back get the blue for growth and color, actinic for color only. You will need to replace your PC bulbs every 6 months. I would suggest buying UVL brand bulbs with the internal reflector. That should maximize the output from the bulbs. Make sure the reflector is pointing into the tank.
