it's really up to you, some pple have the lights on from 5 to 10 hour a day. for an example my light setup is 5pm to 11pm blue 6pm to 10pm 10,000 11pm to 5am night light. but slowly work your way up to the longer hours

On average a good 6-7 hours a day is good. If you leave them on anymore then that, you may see some increase in algae growth on the rocks/glass. Your corals will also tell you when they get too much light, they just simply close up. But you dont want to get to that point and leave your lights on until they close up.

A good 7 hours a day would be good. Run the blues for about an hour in the morning, then turn on the whites for another 5-6 hours, then have the blues run for another hour. Kinda like a dusk dawn situation.

i agree-7-8 hours is good. if you are able to provide "dusk" and "dawn" lighting with blue actinics or 50/50s then that is nice. I also found that running a couple blue led lights at night to resemble moonlight is nice.
