Have a quick question for everyone out there. Has anyone used Bili blue lamps instead of the garden variety like corallife and powerglow bought from online and local fish stores. Bili light - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Right now I am using 4 20 watt lamps along with 500 watts of mh. I started my tank with 2 20 watt powerglo and 2 20 watt power glow acentics(sp). Then decided after my hospital threw out 8 of the bili lamps that I would experiment a bit and try them out. Added bonus I can get them for free. The lamps look very close to the type used in uv sterilizers so I was a bit concerned. With in a week of replacing the powerglows I saw a remarkable difference with the coloration of the rocks. I actually thought I was having a cryno outbreak but then realized what was happening. The rock was changing from the origional color when bought to a very dark shade of either blue or purple. Now with the rock I started to see very small circles show up on the glass and with in a week coraline began to grow out of these circles. Is this normal for a tank that finished the cycle in the beginning of December? I remember from the last time the tank was up that coraline didn't show up until 6 to 8 months.

Sounds feasible to me, I'm not sure what kind of UV that puts out though. Can't be much if they use it on babies :p
