I want to give my water a nicer blue color and maybe brighten up the tank a bit. I have a 4 bulb system t-5 2 10k white and 2 blue actinic. The bulbs are decently old but what I am basically asking is, and I know this sounds stupid but can I replace the 10k bulbs with 14k as long as the wattage is the same?

yes, you can replace with what ever T5 bulb you want as long as the wattage is the same.

replace actinics with ATI blue plus
replace 10k with ATI 12k aquablue or UVL 14k aquablue (pinkish bulb)..

these will give you crisp bright white/blue with all on, and with blue plus on it will be just blue..

<------- my avatar pic is with UVL 454nm bulbs on only which are similiar in color with ATI blue plus. but ati have better grow/par ratings..

I get most of my bulbs from: reefgeek.com (good price and shipping)

You could go 3 blue plus and one daylight bulb if you are looking for a strong blue.

yes - you can and I already did and have been running that combo with good results since August / Sept 2009

    I have 6 x T5s - 2 x 14k (Geisseman aquablue) 2 x 15K (aquamedic reef white) and 2 x 22k (Giesseman power chrome actinic plus) on my 5ft

    I started with 3 x 10k and 3 x actinic , and the tank looked a yellow- green colour

the tank looks so much better and the corals are all looking healthy under the combo I finished up with
