I am in the process of building a sump/fuge and am wondering what the lighting requirements are for growing things in the fuge? Would a small LED light be best? What wattage should I be aiming for? Regular 15 watt bulb from another aquarium? This whole fuge thing is new to me!

A white LED bulb would be good. Get one of the PAR38 bulbs. A spiral compact fluorescent that is the equivalent of a 65 watt bulb will work also.

Not really the most ideal spectrum is offered with that little clip on fixture.

Also - it is a very low powered fixture.

How big is the area that you need to light up in your fuge?

That will dictate what size/type bulbs you should get.

I agree LED/or CF would work.

I personally prefer LED for not having to replace the bulbs. Also the power consumption is lower.

The fuge size will be 6 inches by 10 inches, 8 inches deep.

A single Par38 or boost LED in 7500K or so correlated color temperature would do that area very nicely and you would never have to replace the bulbs. In two years you would pay for the LEDs with not having to replace CF/t5 bulbs - in less time than that you will recover your investment cost over CF/t5 due to decreased power draw - especially for a fixture that is potentially on for 12 hours/day - that is a lot of kWh to accumulate when the power draw is greater!

Why would you suggest an led that cost so much more than a cfl bulb? The boost led is rated at 21w why the tcp bulb that i use rated 13w unless you are planning on using your fuge as the frag tank then yeah Use the one that everyone use. Call home depot and order it, free shipping to you
