I have a 150 that is 60 x 24 x 24 and I am lighting it with MH PC combo. 175 watt on the mh end and it's working great

My 150G is 48"x24"x33" and I have a 250W with 130W of CF actinics. T5 didn't exist when I bought it, or I would have gone with T5 with the MH in my fixture.

Get at least a 4 bulb 4 foot hot5 unit and you will be fine. Im growing a bunch of sps, Lps, shrooms, zoas, have a blue tip carpet anemone and have run the Tek HOT5 unit for around 3 years with no problems. Remember with T5's they should be placed 3 to 4 inches above the tank.

Soft corals don't require much light in relation to that of most small polyped stonies!
Right now you can get by without using halides, however, you may want to think about what the future might hold for your aquarium. If in the near future, you decide that small polyped stonies are what you want to focus on , then it is best to step it up now with possible halides lamps, so you are not running out in a year or so going through this process again...plus it will save you money over the long run!
