As part of my acclimation routine I turn lights off for the balance of the day and into the night with the only exception being my moon lights.

How long should lights be off for the more shy species and does the Coral Beauty fall in this category (shy species)?

I run my lights straight down the middle. 1/2 and 1/2. My single strip PC comes on at 9am, then my 2 bulb PC fixture on at 10am, then that one goes off at 8pm, and my single strip off at 9pm, with the moon lights on all night. Everything seems happy enough to me.

    Thanks Brandon.

I was referring to the introduction of "new" fish to the tank especially the more shy ones. I have read and been told by the LFS when introducing new fish to the tank the lights should be off so as not to spook "stress" the fish.

My question is since I do this "lights off" thing (and it makes alot of sense IMO), is it OK to turn the lights on the following morning for the more shy species or should the lights be off for a longer period of time?

    Thanks.

    :)

I turn the light off when first introducing a new fish to my QT and then have lights on the next day(I do different if the fish is sick). If you don't QT, they will still find their hiding place by the time sun comes up. The new member will keep hidden until he/she is more comfortable with their new environment. Just my 2 cents. :)
