lights on for how long?

    i have a 55g tank w/ t5 lights. have all kinds of fish and corals. its been up for a few months and lfs told me 10 hours on and i had some1 else tell me 8 hours. since i added coral i was told to drop it to 6 hours and every week add an hour till i got to 8. is this correct? 8 or 10 hours?

    10 to 12 hours is pretty standard on a mixed reef with t5's

    i just keep mine on from when i wake up till i go to bed. don thave a timer just switch it on in the mornin and off at night. and ive had tons of mixed reef and sps tanks, well quite a few

    Most coral reefs are very close to the equator so that would be 12 hours of sunlight
    I like to stick between 8 and 10 for my main lights and 1 hour on either end for the actinics

    I go for a long photoperiod...12-14 hours usually.
