I wouldn't. I would do reverse lighting. Only light the fuge when the main tank lights are off.

I'll second that. I use a 30 minute overlap on my fuge lighting (fuge light comes on 30 minutes before the main tank's lights go off at night, and fuge light stays on for 30 minutes after the main tank's lights come on in the morning). I see no reason to run lights 24/7 as the macro algae needs time to rest ( when was the last time you saw the sun lighting up a coral reef 24/7 ? ).

I am very confuse about this, what is the effect of the lights in the fuge being on or off?
won't the same water in the fuge is also in the main display? perhaps if the lights are on in the refugium only when the main display lights are off, wouldn't that cause that when the lights are off in the refugium the algae will grow in the display tank?

i believe that leaving the lights on 24/7 gives a much greater chance to the plants going "sexual" and you not a happy camper, ive also heard it stabalizes the ph but i dont know how reliable the source is.

oops, i meant that keeping the reverse photoperiods stabalizes the ph, not leaving them on 24/7 :)

Ok cool, I needed to know more about that! it makes sense that the ph stabilize, I ask this question because mine stay on during the time my display lights are on but, they go out at night between 11 to 12:00 am till 7:00 or 8:00am, and then they stay on from 8:00am through the day till midnight or so, when they go back off
