My friend bought an anemone for me yesterday and my lights went out(the 12000k daylight the actinic blue still on). How long will it last with out the proper lighting and what will it do to my tank?

    my set up is 55g, 60lbs lr, 1 inch ls, temp 78, amm0 , rite 0, rate 0, salinity 1.025.

My inhabitants hippo tang (very aggressive), lionfish, maroon clown, 4 hermit crabs, turbo snail and 1 coral banded shrimp.

Yesterday I feed a piece of silverside and it eat it just fine, earlier today he looked fine but now its under a rock. I'm waiting on replacement bulbs.t-5's

    Please help!!

Everything can do OK with lower lights for several days, but you should look for a replacement locally and right away and place an order for spares of each bulb.

a few days and it will be fine without the daylight. are you just running 2 bulbs? what type? how many ballasts? I hope that the ballast is not the issue.

as for the anem, it should be ok for a few days. it may not stay in that same place though.

All that I have are the 2 blue bulbs, and the moon lights. I ordered the daylight bulb today. I'm not sure what the blast are but I'm waiting on 12000k daylight.

If they are flourescent bulbs, they usualy just dont not work. they may fade, but rarely will they not light unless the ballast is bad. the ballast is what powers the bulbs. I would try to put your blue bulbs in the place of the whites and see if they light and vise versa. if they dont, then you have a larger issue than the bulbs.

FYI your "hippo tang (very aggressive)", is acting that way because the tank is too small for a Hippo. Tangs need to be in 100g+ tanks because they grow quickly and will start becoming aggresive when they get cramped in smaller tanks.

What type of anemone is it? I would keep an eye on it, as they can roam and get stuck in your intakes/powerheads and foul a tank.

it was, until I got versed in SW keeping, those pics are old. It went back to the LFS after about 2 months and all fish in my 55g are now on the smaller side. As the OP mentioned my Hippo got very aggressive very quickly & was a pain to get out but I did it & couldn't be happier. "Hippo-crit" nice one. We are all allowed to make newbie mistakes, but just trying to teach others not to make them as I did,

IMO that Hippo is FINE in the 55. I have kept several in my 75 and they were all fat, healthy and from what I could tell. happy. that tang has 4 ft worth of distance to swim and provided it isnt a large specimen, it will do well, and in a few years, it may be an inch or two bigger.

Getting versed in SW keeping isnt something some "expert" says. im sure several here have proved them incorrect or at least found other ways of doing it that fit us better. IMHO, Experience is the way to go, and in my exp, that fish will be ok provided it is small and there arent any others.
