    just got new lights. got 4- t5ho-54 watt bulbs on a 55 gal. is that good? for sorf corals?

    Depending on the fixture and bulbs it may be great for SPS, but definitely good for soft corals.

    4 T5s on a 55 is good for a lot of corals. Softies is not a problem at all, LPS would be likely fine as well. Would be ok for some SPS (montipora and other lower light species).

    Put some good bulbs - I like Giessemanns - and I would go with two actinics and two 10k bulbs. That would give you a nice crisp light.
