    how long should my lights be on every day i just got my timer and it's set to what i did since i started the tank lights on at 7a.m. off at 10p.m. (except on saturdays and sundays or whatever days i have off school)
    the lights come on 7a.m. or when i wake up basacly

    I run mine 12 on 12 off. I find that if I leave my lights on for, say, 16 or so hours, the corals actually look stressed. They need to shut down for the night. Whether this is one of the great truths or not, it is very consistant. During the last two weeks or so, I have kept the lights on until midnight or 1AM. By that time, they do not look so good. So 12 and 12 gets my vote.
