Lionfish feed questions? (NEWB)

ok i got my very first lionfish, kinda of jumped at a good deal. but now i have feeding questions

1-what do i feed him? everything eles in my tank eats mysis shrimp, and pellets

2-how do i feed him(im scared to put my hand in the tank) can i just drop his food in the tank and hill go after it?

any other info is greatly appreicated!

 

They will usually go for krill on feeder prongs, but to induce feeding you may need some live shrimp or small fish. What kind of lion did you get?

my dad had a lionfish all my life
he dropped in some small shrimp, but it was alive because the lionfish loved to hunt it.
may be a little pricy but every now and then, drop in some live bait.

 

i got a Red Volitan Lionfish, hes really small, bout 2inches(body size)

 

He will not eat pellets, etc. I feed mine frozen silversides and peal and eat shrimp you would buy from a grocery store. Dethawed of course and broken into a eatable size. Wave food back and forth in from of him.

You may need to feed live feeder shrimp to entice him to eat at first.

They are a very hardy fish with proper care.

 

Mine ate silversides and loved them. I fed mine by hand, they will learn that you're the hand that feeds them.

Converting your fish to frozen

 

I had no problem feeding mine frozen shrimp. I used to cut up pieces of jumbo frozen shrimp but as it grew I gave it whole pieces of shrimp. lived a few years dies in a tank crash but was body sized larger then a softball.

 

yeah, i was just gonna buy sum cocktail shrimp from my local grocery store, chop it up into small peices and feed him it. i hope he feed well.

 

I learned to keep the pumps on they think its swimming food and attack it. I was feeding whole jumbo maine shrimp at one point. 2-3 of them and they were good.
