Have you tried dead ghost shrimp yet? In the guide above, there's a pic of the stick I use. It's worked better for me than anything.

When they are small like that, I don't use the "starvation" technique I'd use on bigger preds.

Don't feed too much in the way of feeder fish, go with a couple of mollies and guppies if you have to, but mainly stick to shrimp. DO NOT feed goldfish or Rosey Reds. This is especially important where yours is so young. They have thiaminase in their flesh that will strip the lion of his thiamine.

Attaching a line to that clear stick will help 10-fold with these guys. They can still see the clear stick, that's the point behind the fishing line. It puts distance between the stick and the food item. It also has a natural sway to it. If your arm isn't trembling from holding the stick... you haven't tried long enough. That trembling gives the meal a nice alive jump to it. If he's backing up, you need to back up. He needs to come to it. How big of a piece are you offering him? You'll be able to offer him a smaller piece if you get the 50lb line. If your piece is too big, he'll back up.

You can get "mixed seafood" in the frozen section of your grocery store. It has imitation crab, shrimp, calimari, scallions(I think that is what they are called), and mussels.

I heard an old urban legend that you shouldn't feed them the mussels because they are cooked so, I never fed my lionfish the mussels from the mixed seafood. I never looked into it...

Feeding live foods promote instinctual predatory responses when, say, you want to add something new to the tank.

Well I got him to filter a little bit of food today. I have fed silversides. Tonight I mixed some frozen rotifiers and mynsis shrimp frozen. He opened his mouth all the way twice but he still hasn't got really interested in anything. Ideas????

Training can take months. You need to give the other suggestions a chance to work because they do. But it takes work and time. Sometimes I spend 30 minutes at a time with that stick dangling and my arm shaking from being tired. If you keep trying new things, he'll never recognize a pattern.

You're just messing up your water putting mysis and rotifers in there.

When is the last time he ate and what was it.
