Ok so I figured I would post my list of fish I may be putting in my tank. I want to make it clear that I understand some of these fish need bigger tank requirements, but I have plans for them when they need to be moved out as I will be getting them when they are juveniles. I have put a star by those that I want the most and will be purchasing in the future.

    In no particular order:
*Angelfish, Dwarf - Coral Beauty and/or Flameangel
Tang - Yellow or Atlantic, and Blue Hippo Tang (I understand the tank requirements)
*Goby - Sleeper Gold Head or Diamond Watchman, and Orange Stripe Prawn w/Shrimp
    *Clownfish - Paired w/ Anemone
    Wrasse - 6 Line
    *Damselfish - Yellowtail (3)
Dragonets - Green Mandrin (may get one of these instead of Diamond Watchman or Sleeper Goby)

What do you guys think about this list? Do you guys think there are any other fish that might go well these? Do you think any of these fish will not get along with each other? All comments are welcome.

I would wait until the tank has matured more to get the mandarin. I may not get two gobies - just the one goby/shrimp combo. Gobies tend to stake out property in the lower part of the tank and get pretty territorial in doing so - at least that's my experience.

Have you thought about any type of blenny? They are very cool little fish. What type of clownfish are you thinking about? I'll let others chime in on the 6 line. I've not kept them.

Overall, looks like a great stocking list!

I would look at other tang options instead of The blue hippo. Look at a bristletooth or kole tang.

I'd reconsider the damsels unless you REALLY want them...once they get nasty, they're REALLY tuff to remove.

I'll never have a sixline again... Cool fish, but mine was an a$$ and I was fortunate I was able to remove and take back to LFS. I'd introduce last if you do get one. I've had my clowns for 7 months and anemone for 1 and the clowns haven't bothered with the anemone, if I could do it again I'd put the anemone in before the clowns, or buy all 3 at the same time....but if this is a new tank I'd wait a few months till the tank settles into its groove for the anemome. I only had my flame angle for 1 week before it passed... Don't know what happened to it as params tested good and all other fish where healthy, but I read that some don't acclimate well... But that being said was a really fun fish to watch, just didn't have the heart to get another one....I've had my orange mandarin for about 2 months now and with the amount I see him hunt and peck pods I'd make sure your pod supply is ready for the task, or buy one that eats frozen.... .Never had damsels but I've read they are like sixlines and get territorial and bully the tank once established.

I am still kind of up in the air about what type of Clown Fish I want. I have been looking at all different types. As for Blennies I have not thought about adding any. I will look into those more and read about them a bit. I would like to know more about the Damselfish, are they really that aggressive? I want a schooling fish in my tank and have read they will school in odd numbered groups. I have put much thought into putting tangs in my tank.. The tang police may come to my door and arrest me, but my son really wants a Blue Hippo Tang. I know my LFS will buy back any fish I get from them for 1/3 of what they would sell them for, which puts my mind at ease knowing they would have a place to go when they get mature in my tank.

I think the blue hippo will be fine for a little while in a 55. I have seen some damsel sized ones come through my LFS, so you'll have some time with one that small. If you're looking for a tang that likely won't out grow the tank, the Kole or bristletooth is your pick.

Yes, damsels can be very aggressive and are a PITA to remove if/when they do become aggressive. I think you may have a difficult time getting anything to "school" in a 48" tank.

I am building my 55 right now, so I am interested in the responses.

I think you're asking for trouble with that many damsels. Clowns are damsels themselves and have their own territory, then 3 yellowtails need their own. I'd just get one yellowtail. There are so many blue and yellow fish out there to replace the other 2 anyways. Blue gudgeon goby, many dwarf angelfish (though I wouldn't have more than one angel), midas blenny, yellow clown goby, royal gramma, etc.

Also, the clowns alone may be trouble. You should definitely avoid maroons, and tomato, cinnamon, and clarkiis can be more aggressive than the average orange clown too.
