Most recent addition was a small duncan frag about a week ago. Was opened up very nicely at the store and opened up in my tank, fed it twice so far and it ate both times. Past 2 days it has been closed though for some reason and the main head looked to have what looks like a clump of algae/food that is undigested. Upon looking closer I nopticed these tiny little dark things crawling around the frag, only a couple but still I can see them. Almost looked like a mini black copepod.

I know there are red bugs with acros and stuff but what can these be? Are there bugs that harm duncans? Doesnt seem to be on anything else in the tank yet only on the duncan and the sand around the stalk.

I am colorblind so its hard to tell but they did not look red to me. I turned on the light and they scurried real fast off of the duncan and into the sand around it, now I cant see a single one. They looked more dark like maybe black or brown little round things.

I thought redbugs are only SPS badguys?? Are there different bugs for lps?

Thats what im hoping but all the other pods ive seen were always very light in color, was just concerned since the duncan doesnt look to hot and thats where I saw them.

Hopefully the Duncan is just new, still less than a week in the tank, and acclimating. Maybe I should move it to a lower flow area

The duncans are on the sandbed under an archway, not shaded though due to placement. The HOB filter is above them and when the water hits the front wall it probably created a current backwards right at them to some degree so maybe too much flow? When they did open up they were really inflated without extending the tentacles very much.

I also contacted the store owner about it, he said that he jsut dipped all the corals in the tank and did not notice anything except amphipods. He dips all corals upon new shipments and from time to tiem as a precaution before selling.

I moved the coral to an area of a little less flow and also closer to the front glass so I can keep a good eye on things until im 100% sure theyre doing ok
