oh ya, if you don't want to remove the rock you can shoot boiling salt water on the with a tank god (turkey baster), but you have to be careful not to get the stuff around it. When it gets really establish it will be growing on a far amount of your coral by attaching to the rock right at the base of the coral and warping around it. Once it's to that point there is nothing you can do except keep it in check by physically picking it off with tweezers or kill the coral too.

Just about any in tank treatment will lead to more problems, what ever you do do it in a bucket, clean the rock very well and get rid of the water.

The first one looks like sponge, the 2nd is definitely hydroids. Mine died off after the tank settled & I cut back on nutrients they were getting from food, but not before I had a bunch of tiny round jellyfish swimming around.

    Thanks for all the replies!

My tank is past the cycling point though...I'm not sure where everyone got that idea. I set it up a year and a half ago, but these things just started growing in the past couple of months. Not sure where they came from or how.

I tried shooting some aipstasiaX on the hydroids and they have seemed to die at about a 80% success rate. Hopefully this type of hydroid will be easier to get rid of than some of all of your experiences!

Thanks again for all the help!

I think it I could have got them in the start if I was thinking right.
