Hey guys here is a weird one for ya. I have spotted a bug that was of decent size releasing "little puffs of smoke" into the water maybe 5-6 at a time. And when I looked on the other end of the tank there was another one (except I couldn't see the bug just the "smoke"). Any idea what these could be? I tried to take a rock out that one was on, but didn't get it fast enough. Also my frogspawn was smaller than normal after I saw these, could be coincidence, but maybe not. Thank You ahead of time, I wish I had a pic, but they didn't turn out...sorry

Could be a snail that blew an engine?? j/k;D

I have a lot of Stomatella snails ( Dove Snail, Shell-less Snail, Slug Snail) that hitched a ride into my tank that spawn in this fashion 2-3 times a month at least.

So I would think it would be something similar to this, one will puff out the sperm and the other the eggs, and before to long wa-la baby snails. I mostly see these little snails on a half shell at night.

This link has a good picture of them.
    Welcome to Saltcorner.
in the snail section about 3/4 of the way down the page after orange turbo snails.

    Hope this helps.

if you are not over feeding your tank they are good addition to your tank

even though they are spawning the tank will only suport so many the rest will die as babies

I also confirm that it's stomatella that do that, often up to once a week I have seen it happen in my tank. While quite startling at first, it's neat to see life being reborn in your SW tank. :)
