Live/dead sand help. Fauna? Ecosystem construction

    do you use the uv on your reef tank? imo i would not use it, it kills all bact good and bad, imo they may have a place somewhere but, not in a reef tank.
    yes your sand bed can die off but, imo if you want a dsb shifting is the worst thing you can do to it, if the sand is seeded it is already being shifted by the life it has in it, at the proper amount it should be and no more, to much shifting is worst, then to little. i have not vaccumed my sand bed in years and it isn't compacted at all and doing great, i have creatures i don't know what they are, all i know is, they are keeping my reef clean and saving me from having to. there are reseeding sands like garfs grunge that will work on dead sand beds. imo a good sand bed in better then no sand bed all the way around but, both will work, its ones preference bb or dsb?
