Any reason why this wouldn't be a good deal? Should I be leery? It appears to have some hair algae growing and he mentioned that the tank had been setup for approximately 6 months before he broke it down and decided to sell.

Dude, that's not what I would call "some" GHA. That's a metric boatload of GHA lol

i would pass on that rock. With all that GHA you will wind up needing to bleach the rock before you even put it in your tank. This will take about 2 weeks.

Haha. I was thinking I could just rinse it and roll with it since I'd be placing this in a brand new setup, but sounds like it's too much to it.

Looks like that $100 will get you a GHA forest with some rock attached..

Just a thought... It would be going in a tank that would be beginning a cycle. With my skimmer doing it's job and tank cycling, would it be worth it and shouldn't it clear up once the cycle was done?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...GHA is the devil. It takes a lot of work to get rid of it. Even if you have to pay $10lb for LR, don't buy that guy's rock.

Guess that guy has never heard of a sonic scrubber . . . I would pass on that for 100 but probably grab it for 50. If you scrubbed it down, then added it to a new system with 0 phosphates and no lights for a few weeks (while cycling) that should take care of it. Bring a scale tho, looks a little sparse for 50 pounds if that's a 55 gallon tank.
