On an 80g cycled tank, I had about 15lbs of LR with no sign of coralline algae.

Since I needed more rock to build an aquascape, I went and got myself 55lbs of fiji rocks with a lot of purple on it.
the LFS told me the LR has some worms on them and I shouldnt worry, its good for the tank (bristle worms? pink cawlers)
As instructed by the guy at LFS - I came back home (10mins away), threw all the rocks in two buckets with tank water from my last WC yesterday, put in a power head in each to keep the water flowing and left it over night.

Disaster - - I got back home from work today, curiously checked the buckets and found this:

I'm pretty sure thats aiptasia - something I've been told to stay away from

What the best suggestion? should I kill everything on the rocks by bake/bleach/acid/etc
or is there still a way to get the good Coralline algae off it (so i can introduce it to DT)

any other way to kill aiptasia alone and save the rocks?

it would be painful to kill the rocks after spending so much

ps: LFS won't take it back, tried that!

You are going to have to nuke that rock.

    Nightmare is right.

I would make it very clear to that LFS how dissatisfied I was and spread the word. The selling of that rock is just plain dishonesty and if they did not know better they have no business running a LFS.

    Nuke the rock big time.

All I wanted was some Coralline algae in my tank and an aquascape

is there any way I could kill the pests in the buckets?
meds? lemon juice? vinegar? something magical?

That rock is just nasty..the atipasia, the works (bristle worms are not cool in my opinion)....and it looks like its got hair algae on it as well...I would really try to take it back and if they wont take it...launch a major negative PR campaign against that LFS. That is total crap rock there.

Coraline will come on its own, no need to seed it. Just get good rock in there, get your parameters right, and focus on your levels of magnesium and calcium and within a few months you will have more coraline than you know what to do with...you might even be looking for ways to make it stop! :)

The motto here is go slow and let it grow....truer words have never been spoken when it comes to reefing.

You have to make sure every tiny microscopic pieces of tissue is destroyed, that will not happen unless you have one of those aipitasia wands. Even then it would be a quite a choir.

Nuke the rock and try to consider yourself lucky that you found it early on.

People will give you alternatives, but with that infestation you will not be able to kill them all completely and they will come back trust me.

Thank you for being supportive guys

I guess I'm left with no choice but to kill them :(

any one know a proper method of killing them? (anything that doesn't involve acid, we don't openly get muriatic acid where I live)
Clorox is the best bleach I can get my hands on.

Go back the the LFS and ask to speak to the "OWNER" let him/her know of your issue, If the Owner will not satisfy you let them know that you will no longer patronize thier store ( $$ speak louder then words ) just make sure the store is crowded and others can hear hear you

Or you could simply dry the rock for a day or two and then rinse and recycle. I know bleach is safe it just gives me the worries when used around cycling and running tanks.

I would bleach the rocks and recycle them in a container before introducing them.
