Hi guys! i'm new to this forum, i hope i can get some help from you guys!

6 months ago a did the change from tropical tanks to salt water tanks...i my whole life i only did tropical fish not marine. so i purchased about 150 lb of live rock and put it in the tank to cure, it worked fine and was starting to look great, last month i kind of gave up on it.

so i took all the water out and let the rock sit there for about 4 to 5 weeks! My question is....i would love to use this rock for a african cichlid tank and not just throw it away,"it's so beautiful" can this be done by killing the "live rock" by bleaching it???

will this affect my cichlid tank in the long run...

and what is the best\safest way to do this?

thanks in advance for the help!

Yes, you can use it. Just do a search on "nuking rock". I would make sure to rinse it doubly well to ensure salt doesn't get trapped in there to leach out.

    Hey PackLeader, Thks for response!

i just finished rinsing it like crazy!! there was some black stuff that came out..but all in all i rinsed it super well and it doesn't smell bad at all, right now it's in the bathtub full of water, i was going to put a couple cap fulls of bleech but i'm a little scared..

how do i know how long to keep it under bleeching and how much bleech is too much?

also once that's done, is rinsing the rock out going to remove all the bleech?? or will my cichlids keep dying cause the bleech wont go away??
