For a 100G FOWLR, how much live rock should you put in? Do the same rules apply of those to a reef tank? (usually 1-1.5 lbs per gallon) Also I've been recommended Tukani rock as a good live rock for both reef or FOWLR. Price is about 5.50-5.99 per lbs. What do you guys think about that kind of rock and the price?

    Thanks

not sure how to calculate how much you'll need, but don't spend big bucks on a whole bunch of live rock, split it up with less expensive base rock. It doens't have all the stuff on it yet..looks like dry rocks, but after a month or two in a tank they start to blend right in and they are saving you $$ You might want do have Live@ 5.99plb, then the rest use base at 2.99-4.99 plb

Does the base rock also develop those cool colors like the greens and purples? sorry for the dumb question. Oh, and also would you get more base rock than the live you were referring to?

not a dumb question! yes eventually you won't even be able to tell them apart! after the lives have a good amount of coralline on then you can scratch the coralline off and let it float through your tank(filter off for about an hour) and then turn the powerheads off and let it settle(30 more min) and you will have it then growing on those rocks too.

that is correct I would buy more base rock and a few really nice pieces of good live rock

np! when it comes to rocks, bigger isn't always better, unless it's full of holes or already built like a cave.

I think if money is a problem then you can do like 60% base rock and do like 40% LR just to make it look nice instead of being barren for a couple of months... sometimes it takes longer for base rock to grow Coraline algea on it... all depends on how much money you plan on spending. I currently bought some LR online for the first time turned out very very nice I was very pleased I bought some fiji branch rock at http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=393 2813&pcatid=2813 would post pics of it but currently too lazy LOL

you may consider only enough rock for decoration and a bioball filter for the FO. it won't remove nitrates like LR. but its probably cheaper and will handle a big fish load
