I have found a local guy who has 60 pounds of live rock that I thought about getting from him to seed my 120 gal tank that I am currently setting up. My question is it has by his description he has xenia, zoas and hairy mushrooms on them. Should I pass on this rock because it has some corals on them and my system is to new for corals. He only wants 2.00 a pound and it has some good coralline on it. Here are some pics.

13, I would take it. You have expierence keeping corals right? If so, a tank, even a new one should do fine with that mix. The xenia is the most sensitive and believe it or not can die if you look at it the wrong way. I would try to transfer it to your tank ASAP and preferrably keep it wet/moist the whole time. Is there anyway you could transport the rock in water?

Yes I can transport it in water. He is not far from me either so that will help. I will get in touch with him in the morning and set up a time to get it. Thanks. I just didn't know how the corals would get along with the new tank.

I don't see why you would "nuke" it.... Xenia, zoos and mushrooms grow fast and can either be a nuisence or a blessing. I have never had luck w/ xenia, I keep my tank too clean, mushrooms melt under my T5s and zoos I like so its up to you 13, free coral is free coral. Heck, if you don't want it donate it to a local reefer or a newbie or someone struggling no need to get rid of it!

    Happy reefing!!
