Can i add rocks that i picked out from the bay completely underwater? I scrubbed them down, rinsed them like 5 times for a little critters to come out and anything else harmful. I have them in a bucket out side with water just soaking. Will this effect my water levels like amonia and stuff?

can always soak them in a 10:1 water:bleach solution for a few days then soak them on and off for another 3 weeks. this however destroys the point of live rock but is the only way you can be certain you are not introducing and dangerous diseases or pests. Also, very few people will actually suggest taking anything directly out of the ocean and into your tank.

I believe in Florida that is illegal.
regardless of that it's not best to collect rock from the shallows. This area tends to be the worst place for pollutants. Best to buy your rock from a LFS

you don't want that rock. it's likely to be full of foul chemicals and pests.

No pictures my replacement phone sucks, and no i don't believe its illegal. I do far worse stuff than to worry about picking rocks from the beach lol. But yea i dunno Im going to try the rinse and drop them in. I'll let yall know what happens.

yeh its illegal to take rock from the ocean in florida...unless u bought a piece of the ocean, aquired an expensive permit, and put the rock in the ocean yourself and let it become live...other than that, if FLFW ever catches you, you will be fined heavily, and any gear you may have with you (including boat) will become state property, up to jail time.

This is a bad idea.Keep in mind there are people that cruise forums from the FWC looking for people that are doing exactly what you are doing. I know this for a fact because I had 2 guys from FWC come to my house and give me a written warning just for posting coral frags on craigslist without the proper permits. The FWC is not messing around anymore.

It is greatly frowned upon here at 3Reef to perform illegal collections of aquarium stock.
The collection laws in Florida are in place to protect the highly sensitive environment and are not to be taken lightly.
Please respect those laws as a responsible member of 3Reef

Guys thanks for the info. It wasn't that big of a deal, they were off the shore and it was 3 4 inch pieces. No boat or no special equipment. Its just as people going down the beach line getting shells. But for future i will just go get some off the fish store. Thanks for the inputs either way.
