Check the "Marine Life - Invertebrates" section of the the chart on this page.
Recreational Harvest of Marine Life (Aquarium) Species

We should make a "collection of LR is illegal in FL" sticky as it seems quite a bit of people seem to ask this question quite a bit.

Whether it was 3 or 4 inches, or 100 lbs of it, it is a big deal to the FWC. The FWC do fine, jail, and repossess boats of commercial and recreational fishers. I know of two commercial captains that lost their boats, license and career in Mayport and St. Augustine because "it wasn't a big deal". I am sure the recreational side is replete with many more cases as well.

But you are correct, once it is on the beach it is no longer illegal. Just make sure it is clear of the water line (tidal line), or the FWC may give you a hassle. :)

edit: I forgot to say, the captains did not lose their license over collecting LR, but repeated offenses of keeping more than bag limit and keeping fish that are out of season. But the moral remains, the FWC will prosecute you whether it is a small infraction or large.

    +1 to this.

No big deal to "you" but big deal when there are a million "yous" who think it's "no big deal" doing the same thing.

Just for clarity sake, it is also no longer live rock at this point... but dead/dying rock that requires bleaching.
