I purchased some quality live rock from liverockusa.com when I started my nano and my tank did cycle very fast and clean, I had a couple good hickhikers, but I also had apstasia out the wazoo

Now that I have my first tank going I will do the same, only order dry rock and seed it with rock from my current tank.

You will get a lot of life on the rock from that site, but be prepared to trap a lot of mantis and pistol shrimp. I've heard endless accounts of at least those 2 "bad" hitchhikers coming from them. That's why I didn't go with them or TBS rock to seed my dry rock with.

I wanted to shoot myself for buying their rock. I had so many damn problems because of it, ranging from hundreds of gorilla crabs to massive sponge dieoff to algae. Just say no, and do it the right way with base rock.

I have some of that rock coming in tomorrow. I will let you know what I think once I get it. I have heard that it is bad for mantis shrimp so mine is going into the sump.

I never got a mantis, but a hundred gorilla crabs is far, far worse than one mantis.

I did not see any gorilla crabs but I did see one mantis. There is a lot of sponge die off but the coralline algae is thick. I even saw a small embedded clam. I put one rock in the DT and the rest in the sump. I had rock for the DT but just needed to seed it. I knew the risk but did not care because most was going in the sump. I can see the points others made above and agree, but if you are going to go with all live rock and order 100 lbs from a good supplier the die off and hitchhiker problems will be about the same. That is why people go with about 80% base rock.
