It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Probably did not have the parameter in line that promote coralline growth.

If the rock is a good deal, and there are NO aiptasia, majano, flatworms on it then I would give a go.

+1 I agree. As long as you like the look of the rock and get it for a decent price I would say go for it

Don't take the urchins.... just the rock or any coralline you have on your present rocks will be licked clean too.

I have a Blue Tuexdo Sea Urchin who likes coralline, but it has not been a detriment to my coralline growth. As a matter of fact, I wish it would clean up more of it. My coralline was weak until I started dosing a combo of SeaChem Reef Buffer and Reef Builder - then it went wako.

He prob just ran a fish only tank, these do not need any real good lights to keep. So tank water may have been fine but may not have had light to grow coralline.

80% of my tanks are underlit and FOWLR. You don't need bright lights to grow coralline.

Its the sea urchin eating it. I have coralline all over my back glass and my rocks were becoming covered also, until I bought a blue tuxedo urchin. He has since stripped my rocks, but he is kinda cool so I don't mind. Doesn't really touch the stuff on the glass though.
