So, I started to rearrange my rock structure in my new build and... Tank won the first round.. As soon as I started moving rock it clouded (duh, I know.. at least now I do)... So I pulled out 50-60% of the rock and topped off with RO/DI and have it filtering...

How long will the live rock stay "live" on my living room floor? I have it wrapped in towels that are damp with tank water...

Probably a couple of hours at best before some stuff starts dying.

It's cured, so there isn't much besides the bacteria... Does that make a difference?

When you say topped off, did you use freshwater or saltwater?

he means the bacteria die off I believe. Which can happen.

Fresh, my salinity was high anyhow. There are no fish or anything, I haven't really even started the nitrogen cycle

Not quite sure I understand why you pulled the rock out? Cloudy water isn't going to hurt anything. It would have cleared up on its own.

I can't see what I'm doing to get a good aquascape going. I'm trying to get it set up right and can't see what I'm doing. I pulled it out so when it settles I can place it in slowly and not kick up too much dust... I may try to do it blind...

Make up some more saltwater and rinse off your rock that is out of the tank before putting it back in that should help with the cloudiness issue. Try to disturb the sand bed as little as possible. I would complete putting the rock on the sand bed now so as not to create yet another cloud.
