live rock or bio balls in biocube?

    Should i keep the bioballs i have or use live rock instead of the bioballs?

    live rock is probably easier because

    goes in the main tank and doesn't require a huge wet/dry in the sump.

    looks natural in the tank.

    does reduce some nitrates.

    well i ave bioballs and i have been having big algae blooms and problems i can't figure out why

    I switched out for LR rubble in my Biocube 29.

    Are there more benefits with LR in your sump compared to Bioballs

    nah, both will cause problems if you don't keep them clean.

    Well, I'll say that this isn't necessarily true. Live rock has porous surfaces, and has the potential to develop anaerobic bacteria that can remove nitrates from your system. Bioballs do not have that potential, as they are solid.

    i have algal problems too (bc 8 gal) i have bioballs in the 2nd chamber and 9lbs LR in the display part.
