    Hi

I was wondering what would be the best live rock to get , my LFS have fiji cured.

is this the best ? or what would use all reccomend.

    I have a lido 120 L bare .

I am going slow on this build and want to do it right .

( I am going to get the rock + ready mixed d+d water from my LFS)

Also what would you guys reccomend to do .

coral Sand - then build the rock formation then water ?

or sand then water then rock ?

also how long can I keep the rock out of water for if I am drilling ?

Also finally I have been told that all I need is live rock and a skimmer. and if the live rock is cured I would not need to cycle ? - is this true or do I still need to cycle for 8 weeks with the dead shrimp ?

thanks for anyone thats wants to answer all me noob questions ?
    Dave.

I am not really sure if I understood your question but adding rocks first and then the sand adds more stability if your going to have sand sifting inhabitants, if you do it the other way around sand and then rocks they can get knocked down. If you want to drill the rocks i would not go with live rock. You would still need to cycle.

    1. the kind of LR you use is sort of personal preference. Though some are more porous than others.
    2. Add water first then sand or rock.
    3. The longer your rock is out, the more likely things are to die & the higher die off you will see(theoretically)
    4. The only problem i see with drilling LR would be you may hit living things while drilling. Use a masonry bit.
5.Yous should have LR, skimmer, powerheads, maybe a power-filter depending on your equipment set up.

I have some questions/suggestions for you.

    1. Will this be a reef, FOWLR(fish only with live rock) or FO?
    2. d+d water?
    3. Get Base rock if you can. It will be less expensive & you will have less of a cycle.
    4. More equipment may be needed if you do a reef
    5. Will you have a sump or HOB(hang on back) equipment?

    hi

I was looking a live rock setup with maybe 3 fish + a shrimp and a maybe a goby.

(the main question was - does cured live rock die off any more ?) or is it ready to go - or do I still need to cycle.

I have a protein skimer / a eheim classic filter (for putting zorb pouches in and maybe poly wool)

I dont want to go the sump route - but woold I have to ?

    I want maybe 3 corals max .

I have twin marine t5 lights.

d+d water - I mean ready mixed water using d+d reef crystals from the shop.

thanks for the advice on the rock / sand water question.

So if I want approx fish and max 3 corals.

what extra would I need than whats I will have

Live rock / PS / eheim / 2 nano tunze and twin t5 lights. ?

    thanks guys / girls.

I would still cycle and monitor parameters. No need for sump if your skimmer is hang on back, I do not think it is necessary for 120L.

Um, that sounds like you have about everything, if you aren't going the sump rout. You shouldn't experience much die-off if the rock is already cured, but the tank will still go through a cycle, regardless. That is, thanks to new sand and new tank conditions.

But with those few corals, since you only want a few, I would recommend soft coral. What light fixture will be using & what bulbs?

I have a dual t5 with a 2 marine bulbs - I dont know what buld they are as it was bought 2nd hand - but they are a nice blue one and a white one.

thanks for all the advice .

So the way I have to go is

1.fill my tank with ready mixed salt water
    2. fill with coral sand
    3. place live rock.
    4.power on power heads,
    5. throw a shrimp in there
    6. leave for about 6 weeks.
    7. then turn on skimmer
    8. then add first fish ?
    9. then when would I add 2nd fish ?
    10. then when would I add first noob coral ?

    cheers
    Dave
